According to a Police report, the woman, Anita Baichan and her young, Moshim Khan, were at home on Sunday morning when two men armed with cutlasses barged into the house just after 2:00am and demanded money and jewelry.

Police in West Berbice are probing the death of a 49-year-old woman who died this morning in her home after it was set ablaze by robbers.

According to a Police report, the woman, Anita Baichan and her young, Moshim Khan, were at home on Sunday morning when two men armed with cutlasses barged into the house just after 2:00am and demanded money and jewelry.

According to a Police report, the perpetrators were given $30,000,  but kept demanding more valuables. ‘

When they were not given anything else, the armed men used duct tape to tie the hands, feet and mouth of the woman and her son then they set the house on fire before escaping.

 The son, Moshim Khan managed to roll out of the building but subsequent efforts, with assistance from neighbouring residents, failed to save his mother, Anita Baichan.

The young man has been hospitalised with several injuries including chop wounds to the body. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
