BREAKING: Guyanese US-drug fugitive “Death” arrested in Dominican Republic and extradited to the US

Edwards was blocked from entering the Dominican Republic and deported after arriving in the island. He was placed on a flight that took him to the United States, arriving at the Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey where he was immediately arrested by US Authorities.

38-year-old suspected Guyanese drug trafficker Dennis Edwards aka “Death” has been extradited to the United States from the Dominican Republic to face drug trafficking charges.

He was wanted in the United States for drug trafficking.

Edwards was blocked from entering the Dominican Republic and deported after he arrived on the island on Monday.

After he was refused entry and deported by the authorities in the Dominican Republic, he was placed on a US Government flight, arriving at the Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey. He was arrested on his arrival by US Government Authorities at the airport and kept in custody.

Edwards has since been charged in an indictment from 2012 with conspiring to import five kilograms or more of cocaine from St. Maarten into the United States.

He appeared on Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Edward S. Kiel in Newark federal court and was detained without bail

According to documents filed in the case and statements made in court, the US Government alleges that Edwards was part of a criminal conspiracy that arranged to import cocaine into the United States.

The conspiracy charge against Edwards carries a minimum penalty of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison and a maximum fine of $10 million.

U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited special agents of the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Ricky J. Patel, and deputies of the U.S. Marshals Service, under the direction of U.S. Marshal Juan Mattos Jr., with the investigation leading to the charges.

In a release, the US District Attorney for New Jersey said the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs provided substantial assistance in securing Edwards’ arrest.

U.S. Attorney Sellinger has thanked officials in the Dominican Republic for their assistance.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachelle M. Navarro of the General Crimes Unit in Newark.

News Source understands that Edwards was being closely monitored by US and local authorities over the past ten years. It is suspected that he traveled to the Dominican Republic from Suriname.
