BREAKING: Small medical missionary plane crashes; Survivors make contact with Air Traffic Control

A small single engine medical evacuation plane that belongs to a US Medical Missionary group, crashed this evening as it was heading towards Georgetown from the town of Mabaruma.

News Source understands that the pilot alerted Air Traffic control moments after the crash. There are other survivors on board, Aviation sources told News Source.

The plane was reportedly on a medical evacuation mission at the time of the accident. It is reported that the pilot and three passengers were on board.

The crash took place 13 nautical miles from Timehri.

Persons in the Nismes area have reported seeing the small plane going down in the backlands of that West Bank Demerara community.

The Head of Guyana’s Civil Aviation Authority, Egbert Field has confirmed the crash, which might have been caused by the aircraft running out of fuel as it headed towards the Airport at Ogle. 

The Guyana Defence Force has dispatched one of its helicopters as part of a search and rescue mission.
