A British national is in the custody of the Narcotics Branch of the Guyana Police Force after he was busted at the Ogle International Airport with close to two pounds of cocaine hidden in three pairs of shoes and a pair of slippers.
The bust took place on Wednesday afternoon.
The man was preparing to board a LIAT flight to Barbados when he was pulled aside for additional searches at the Ogle International Airport. The Narcotics Branch agents decided to carry out additional searches of his bags and it was then that the cocaine was found stashed in the bottom of the shoes and slippers.
He was immediately arrested and is expected in court before the end of the week.
Earlier this week, an american woman was busted at the Cheddi Jagan Airport, Timehri as she tried to ferry out just over two pounds of cocaine in the false bottom of her suitcases. She was arrested and charged for drug trafficking.
Drug Enforcement Agents have noticed an increase in the number of foreign nationals coming into Guyana and making attempts to get cocaine out.
Investigators believe many of them are being recruited on social media and are being promised large sums of cash for their drug trafficking efforts.
