Two brothers from Prospect on the East Bank of Demerara, lost their lives tragically this morning in head-on collision between a car and a mini-bus at Union on the West Coast of Demerara.
The accident occurred at around 5:30am.
The two brothers have been identified 21-year-old Michel Daniels and 23-year-old Miguel Daniels. They were heading to Parika to board a boat to head home to Moruca to spend the Easter holidays.
A Police statement indicated that the car with the two brothers was being driven by a 23-year-old Essequibo man, and while it was proceeding east along the northern side of the public road, the young driver lost control and ended up in the southern lane colliding head on with the mini-bus that was being driven in the opposite direction.
The Police said the car was being driven at a fast rate at the time. A third vehicle also slammed into the car after swerving from the mini-bus.

The brothers and the driver of the car they were in along with the driver and a passenger of the mini-bus all suffered multiple injuries. The two brothers, Michel and Miguel Daniels, were both pronounced dead on the scene, while the injured persons were rushed to the hospital.
The Police said post-mortem examinations are to be performed on the bodies of the two brothers. The drivers of the three vehicles are to be questioned. The accident was captured on the security cameras of nearby homes and the footage is being probed by investigators.
The Traffic Department continues to encourage drivers to drive more cautiously on the country’s roads and reduce their speed. More than 30 persons have lost their lives on the country’s roadways since the start of the year.
