Business magnate Nazar Mohamed hires US lobby firm to seek information on US visa refusal

Guyanese business magnate and recently announced candidate for local government elections, Nazar Mohamed of Mohamed’s Enterprise, is hoping that a US lobby firm can get to the bottom of the US government’s refusal to grant him and members of his family US visas.

Mohammed who previously held a US visa, has not been issued a new one in the past ten years. Some members of his family have been similarly refused US visas.

The lobbying company, BGR Group, which is based in Washington has indicated that it has completed a full probe of various wrongdoing claims that have been leveled against the businessman and found those claims to be false.

The lobbying company has since compiled its findings and dispatched to those findings to the local US Embassy as well as the State Department.

Managing Director of the BGR lobby firm, retired FBI Agent Tom Locke, is currently in Guyana, as part of his work with Mr. Mohamed.

On Tuesday, Mr. Locke told News Source that Mr. Mohamed really wants his name cleared of the various allegations that have been leveled against him over the years, from accusations of being involved in money laundering to gold smuggling. Locke said none of those allegations could be substantiated based on his investigations.

“We only work with people that we feel are on the up and up, we don’t just walk with anybody who walks in the door”, Locke said.

According to the lobbyist, Mohamed’s Immigration Attorney has dispatched several documents following the investigations, to the US State Department in Washington.

“I took this on to give the State Department some additional information, because what they did, is that they did not turn him down for a visa, but what they did is put it in administrative processing, which means is that they need more information or they want somebody else to take a look at it in DC and see if it is okay”, the ex-FBI Agent said.

With the documents submitted, and Mohamed hoping for a review and information about the visa refusal, the hired consultant explained that the US Embassy and the US State Department are not time bound to provide the information. He said a response could take weeks or possibly years.

Locke noted that based on his investigations and through speaking to various persons, Mohamed is a model citizen who has been leading the way in developing his businesses and expanding them, while at the same time supporting several charities and other causes throughout Guyana.

“They (US Embassy) do have total latitude to say no, but if they say no then they have to say why, and we are prepared so that if they no this time, then we address that, but right now we think that the reason he has not been given a US visa is because of all of the allegations floating around and the US Embassy has not been able to put a thumb on them”, Locke noted.

Locke said he will continue to monitor the developments for his client, adding that he was first contacted about Mr. Mohamed’s visa troubles by an official of the Guyana Embassy in Washington.

Mr. Mohamed is a well known businessman who operates and owns several multi-million dollar businesses in various sectors, ranging from gold production and export to quarry operations and construction.

He is considered one of the richest men in Guyana.
