A man believed to have been mentally unstable was killed early Friday morning when the house he was sitting under collapsed and crushed him to death.

The incident took place just before 1 o’clock on Friday morning in the East Coast village of Beterverwagting. According to reports, neighbours heard the crushing sound of the old wooden house early in the morning but may not have realised that the man was crushed under it until they checked the house after sunrise.

It is unclear whether anyone lived in the old wooden house. The name of the dead man has not been released.
