The Maritime Administration Department has announced that a search operation is underway after the locally registered ship “CAPT. SAIF” sank off the Coast of Guyana sometime between Saturday evening and Sunday evening.
According to reports, the vessel departed from Georgetown at approximately 07:00am on Saturday August 1st, 2015, with a consignment of general cargo.
The Maritime Administration in a statement said four persons were on board, but according to the information available to the Department, one of them is missing.
“The Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) is coordinating efforts to search for the missing person and has also commenced its investigation.”
