Caribbean Airlines suspends flights to Venezuela

Regional carrier, Caribbean Airlines has announced the suspension of its service to Venezuela for the rest of the month of September. However, the airline has not provided any other information about whether the suspension will be lifted when September ends.

In a social media post, the airline also did not provide any reason for the suspension of its service to Caracas from Port-of-Spain, but stated that affected passengers could apply for a refund or re-book their travel after the suspension is lifted or be transferred to an alternative carrier.

The move by Caribbean Airlines comes as the US military has been building up its presence in the Caribbean Sea as part of a fight against narco traffickers.

Earlier this week, the US announced an air strike on a boat it said was ferrying cocaine from Venezuela and was destined for the US. The 12 member crew on the boat were all killed, even as questions have now surfaced about the deadly airstrike.

The 12 persons who died have all been identified to be Venezuelan nationals who lived in a small fishing community.

The US Government has been seeking regional support for its new fight against narco traffickers from this region.
