Election Day process was free, fair and transparent -says GCCI

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry served as one of several local observers of the 2025 elections and found the election day process to be free, fair and transparent.

Speaking to reporters this morning outside the offices of the Guyana Elections Commission in Kingston, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Kathy Smith, said Guyanese should be proud of the election day process.

“We would have noticed a very free, fair and transparent day and we are very proud of Guyanese who would have came out, very mature and to some extent we saw a lot of happiness and joy in some Guyanese, especially the first time voters. We would have also started this observation when the Disciplined Services would have voted…our members went out to various polling stations and I myself went to one on the East Coast and I observed the voting and I was quite confident and comfortable with the process that GECOM has there and I just want to applaud GECOM for exercising and organising a very smooth procedure”, she said.

The GCCI is also among the observer groups observing the recount of ballots from a sub-district in Region 4, as was requested by the APNU.

Having observed that process, the GCCI President said it appeared to have been going well with no major issues.

Six parties contested Monday’s elections. Based on the declarations in the various electoral districts, the People’s Progressive Party Civic has been re-elected to serve another five year term.
