Centre for Local Business Development to host oil and gas related outreach in Linden

The Centre for Local Business Development will be rolling out a series of outreaches in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) with the aim of helping small and medium size businesses tap into the booming oil and gas industry, as well as other sectors.

The outreach will be conducted from October 3-6, and while it will be hosted in Linden, it will target businesses from across the region.

Introduction to Oil & Gas, Introduction to HSSE and Introduction to Procurement are among programmes that would be covered during the outreach.

Director of the Centre for Local Business Development, Dr Natasha Gaskin-Peters, in an interview with News Source, said the Centre has helped more than 3,000 local businesses tap into the Oil and Gas Sector, as well as a number of traditional industries.

“We have worked with over 3,000 plus local Guyanese businesses. The core thing to understand is that while we work with local businesses to enable them to win more opportunities in the Oil and Gas Sector, we have been working with all local Guyanese businesses. Because, the Oil and Gas Sector really draws on so many different economic activities, so from the construction industry to the logistics and transportation, welding and fabrication, the food sector, so really everything is drawn upon. So, as a centre, we have really stepped up to support all businesses across all sectors as a result of what has been occurring here in Guyana,” Dr Gaskin-Peters told News Source.

Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Supply Chain Management and Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) are among the training programmes being offered by the Centre in addition to API Q1 Mentorship and ISO 9001:2015 Mentorship.

The impact, Dr Gaskin-Peters said, has been felt across sectors with thousands of businesses now better equipped to serve both traditional and non-traditional industries.

“So, what you find, for a lot of local businesses that have been building capacity, they have also been engaging with these foreign entities, and so, they have formed Joint Ventures, and it ranges across sectors, to be able to expand their businesses in country,” the Director said.

Just last week, the Centre for Local Business Development hosted an ElevateAll Entrepreneurship Programme and Expo Day at Pegasus Corporate Suites. The entrepreneurship programme targeted entrepreneurs operating the in the Manufacturing Sector.
