The Ministry of Business and the Guyana Office for Investment are joining forces with the Caribbean Export Development Agency and Private Sector agencies in Guyana to host the first Guyana Trade and Investment Exhibition.

The event is geared to be a business to business interface with new investors and markets for Guyanese products and companies being sought.  It will take place at the Marriott Hotel from the 19th to the 22nd of September.

Speaking to News Source just after the launching this morning, Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin pointed out that GUYTIE is not a replacement for GUYEXPO since that event will continue also.  He said however, that while GUYEXPO has had its successes, when it comes to more interaction between companies and investment opportunities, it was felt that the need existed for an event that targets that area.

“Its not a one-off, so as we proceed with it, we will gain experience and we will learn from any mistakes..And we see this as major as it focuses on attracting the right buyers”, he said.

Gaskin said the Ministry is hoping to attract buyers for the event and therefore he hopes that local companies will sign on early so that those buyers could be contacted.

The event will also focus on promoting packaged local investment opportunities, preparing and promoting export-ready firms to export markets and highlighting Guyana as a destination to do business.

Several companies have already signed on to be part of the event.  Among the agencies offering support are the Small Business Bureau, Guyana Tourism Authority, Private Sector Commission, Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association and the Caribbean Export Development Agency along with the Office for Investment.

The organisers are encouraging interested persons to visit the website for the event at www.guytiegy.com
