Attorney for former Member of Parliament Charrandass Persaud has raised objection to the National Assembly of Guyana meeting this Friday.
During a briefing before the CCJ, Attorney Sanjeev Datadin raised the issue and explained that important pieces of legislation are to be presented during the Friday sitting.
He said based on the case before the CCJ, he believes the National Assembly should not be meeting. Datadin, who joined the hearing via video conference from Guyana, warned that he will seek urgent redress in the Court to block the sitting if it is not called off.
CCJ President, Justice Adrian Saunders said the matter is not before him and therefore he does not intend to comment on it.
The Caribbean Court of Justice will spend two days in May listening to arguments and counter arguments in the appeals filed in the no-confidence case.
The Leader of the Opposition and Chartered Accountant Christopher Ram had filed appeals against the Guyana Court of Appeal ruling that the December 21 no-confidence motion was not properly passed against the Guyana government.
During a brief hearing today, Justice Saunders told the parties that the Court would not want to stifle any one from developing their written arguments before the Court and as such, the Court will allow two days of oral submissions and counter submissions. The Attorneys will have to present themselves in Court on the 9th and 10th May.
