Clinton Urling to head GFF Normalisation Committee

Businessman and former President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Clinton Urling has been picked by FIFA to head the Normalisation Committee of the Guyana Football Federation which has replaced the ousted GFF President and his executive.

The other members of the Committee are Karen Pilgrim, Rabin Chandarpal, Stuart May and Tariq Williams. In a statement to the media, the Acting General Secretary of the GFF Mabiola Howard said the Normalisation Committee will be in charge of revising the constitution of the Guyana Football Federation and manage the daily business of the Federation.

The Committee will also be in charge of the GFF Electoral process and its decisions will be final and binding. According to the General Secretary, members of the Committee will not be eligible to seek office  on the new GFF executive. Elections are expected on or before September 30, 2015.

Last week, two senior officials of the world’s governing football body FIFA travelled to Guyana and announced the removal of the President and his entire executive.

The ousted President Christopher Matthias has been keeping a low profile since the embarrassing removal from office. He had come under criticism from several clubs and local footballers for his management of the affairs of football in Guyana. Many of the senior national players had complained bitterly about how local national footballers were being treated when they travel for international tournaments and some of them still being owned money for participating in tournaments that have passed.

A number of clubs had expressed no confidence in Matthias as the GFF President just a year after he was elected to serve.
