Commercial banks across Guyana will be closing a little earlier daily as they take extra precautions against the coronavirus. 

The Association of Bankers announced today that the banks, which would usually close their doors at 2 pm daily, will now be closing at 12 noon. They will continue to open at 8 am. 

The new measure will take effect from tomorrow and continue until further notice. 

In its statement, the banking association encouraged customers to utilize online and mobile banking to monitor accounts, view account balances and make payments and transfer funds. 

ATM services will remain the same for the provision of additional services.

Republic Bank, ScotiaBank, Demerara Bank, Citizens Bank, GBTI, NBS, Bank of Baroda, Hand in Hand Trust, the Guyana Americas Merchant Bank and Trust Corporation will all be part of the early closure initiative.
