The spike in new COVID-19 cases continued today with 120 new cases being recorded in the past 24 hours. It is one of the highest single-day increase in cases since the first case was recorded a year ago.
The country also recorded two additional deaths today. In total, the COVID-19 pandemic has now claimed 212 deaths in Guyana. The two latest fatalities are both men who were 66-years-old.
The total number of active cases in the country has now jumped to 793 with 747 of those positive cases in home isolation.
Region Four continues to be the epicenter of the pandemic in Guyana. In the past five days, Region 4 has recorded 210 new cases of COVID-19.
And almost half of the total infections in Guyana have been recorded in Region Four which is the most populated region and home of the nation’s capital.
Despite those troubling statistics, there appears to be very little effort by the Health Ministry to contain the virus and push for a reduction in the Region 4 numbers.
But the Health Ministry continues to warn citizens about the pandemic while encouraging them to take all necessary precautions.
Since the start of March, Guyana has recorded more than 800 new COVID-19 cases.
