A Crane, West Coast Demerara Fire ton Tuesday afternoon left eight persons homeless and residents questioning the unavailability of fire hydrants in the community.
The fire which is believed to have been electrical in nature ravaged the 5 bedroom two storey house just after 2 o’ clock on Tuesday afternoon.
One of those left homeless, Orita Davis said she and a friend were in the kitchen when they heard a loud sound.
Davis said they ran to the front room and saw a mattress on fire. The woman said she quickly grabbed her young sons who are 4 months and 5 years old and ran out the house.
Persons in the area told News Source that the fire engine took some time to come and upon arrival their water pump was not working, adding that if they were efficient they could have saved the house.
Meanwhile two other occupants who lived in the lower flat of the wooden and concrete building were not at home.
