As the country continues to record a high number of positive covid-19 cases daily, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony today said that the worrying trend is likely to continue for weeks as he believes persons are not adhering to the current measures which are in place.
“We are going to see this trend in the increase in cases, we will see that for the next couple of weeks I would imagine but again if people start taking more precautions, I think we will see a decrease in the numbers,” the Minister said during today’s covid-19 update.
According to Dr. Anthony, too many persons are still not taking the virus as seriously as they should and as a result, many of them have dropped the ball when it comes to avoiding the virus.
“Mask wearing is a very important way of preventing yourself from getting covid. We also have to get people to stay away from crowds, not being in crowded areas— trying to minimize how many people they are within an indoor space, especially those unventilated spaces,” the Health Minister said.
The Health Minister said for the COVID-19 situation to improve in the country, there has to be a total shift in the way persons operate and go about their day-to-day activities.
“This is something we have to get people to adapt to a different attitude and unless they do that, unfortunately, we are going to see more cases. So, the three things that we keep talking about is wear your mask, wash your hands and watch your distance, these are the three things that we keep repeating to people, unfortunately, many people are still not abiding by these rules. In addition to these three things, we want people to get vaccinated,” The Minister reminded.
The Ministry of Health is encouraging those persons who were administered a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to return for their second dose to be fully vaccinated. There are over 30,000 persons who have not returned for their 2nd dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
