Customers complain of lengthy shipping delays with Q-Trex shipping; Company commits to resolving issue

A number of customers of the shipping company, Q-Trex International, are accusing the Canadian-based shipping company of not being transparent with its operations, having experienced extensive delays.

Some customers have complained about waiting for as long as five months to uplift their barrels and parcels which were shipped from Canada to Guyana.

Standing outside of the shipping company’s David Street Office, Salim Khan – a Canada-based Guyanese, said it is now four months since he shipped two barrels to Guyana with Q-Trex, and to date, he has not been able to uplift them.

“I carried two barrels and gave them – a jumbo and a small one – they told me about seven to eight weeks, that’s the maximum time they will take with the barrel. I said okay. I came in Guyana here, that was since June 18. July, August, September I came back, they said the barrel didn’t reach, October I called; they said the barrel is at the wharf, that was the first week in October. I have to rebook my ticket just to wait for this barrel,” Khan told News Source.

Khan said after repeated inquiries, he was told by the local office that the barrels would be ready on Tuesday. However, when he showed up at the office, he was met with more excuses.

Another customer told News Source that her barrel was shipped since May 15, 2025, and to date, she has not been able to uplift it. The woman said instead of receiving her barrel, she has been met with excuses, and promises that the barrel would be available soon.

“Every time you call, the phone ringing out; when you call, and they do answer the phone, oh I am going to get back to you, I am going to get back to you. They never get back to you. When you call again, oh it deh at the wharf, it deh Brazil, it deh Jamaica, Colombia, all about it deh,” the woman said.

The woman said she has been shipping with the company since 2015 but this is the first time she is experience such delays.

Another customer, identified Mohamed, said he has his receipts to show, that he has been waiting almost five months to uplift cargo.

“The problem is, I post up some things from Canada. I have the bills here to show you proof and it is nearly about four months, five months done already, and I can’t receive nothing. I fly over come over here, my wife tek in sick over there, and I had to leave her. We come here to uplift our stuff, now, they say, everything is in John Fernandes Wharf, and why they can’t get it out from there?” the man said.

One other customer said the company has not been honest and transparent with customers.

“Every time you call the lady, she is at the wharf clearing containers, and I have been made to understand while speaking with a few other customers they were told this for two weeks, and a month now, that the container is at the wharf and is being cleared,” the woman said.

On Thursday, News Source contacted a representative based at the David Street, Georgetown Office. While acknowledging that there have been delays, the official said she is new to the job and could not offer too many details.

“We have cargo that is here that clients are coming to pick up but we expect another container by the end of next week,” the Q-Trex representative said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Q-Trex International, Hardat Latchmansingh, who is currently in Canada, admitted to News Source that there have been delays.

“I will acknowledge that we had quite a ton of shipments being delayed,” Latchmansingh said while noting that he was in Guyana recently and had experienced administrative issues with his business.

The Q-Trex CEO said he has been in contact with officials from the Guyana Revenue Authority with the hope of resolving issues hampering his business.

“This morning I came into work at 7 o’clock and I got assistance from senior folks in the GRA management, they assisted in resolving some of the delays,” he said.

Latchmansingh denied, however, that the barrels and boxes have been stalled for six months and more, and declined further to indicate how soon the aggrieved customers would be able to uplift their cargo.
