Hours after the Police issued a missing person’s bulletin for a Mabaruma gold miner this morning, the man’s decomposed body was found in the Arakaka river.
Dead is 20-year-old Avinash Fernandes. He was last seen alive on Monday night at a mining camp in the 13 Miles Trail Backdam in the village of Arakaka.
A missing person’s report was filed after he was not seen again at the mining camp nor in his home village of Mabaruma.
Head of the Police Public Relations Unit, Mark Ramotar confirmed that the man’s lifeless body was found. He said based on reports out of the region, no visible marks of violence was seen on the body.
He however, noted that the body will be transported to the Port Kaituma Hospital for a more detailed examination in the mortuary.
A post-mortem examination is to be carried out to determine the cause of death.
