Decomposed body found in Berbice shallow grave…Police suspect it might be that of missing British teen

The body of a still to be identified man was discovered on Friday afternoon in shallow grave in the backlands of the Nurney village in Berbice, close to the village of Kildonan.

A special investigative team from Police Headquarters left Georgetown moments after the discovery to assist Police investigators in the area.

Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum confirmed the discovery to News Source and explained that while there is no confirmation, there is suspicion that the body could possibly be that of the missing British teenager, Dominic Bernard.

The discovery came on the same day that new photographs of the teen surfaced showing him posing with what appeared to be a real firearm. It is unclear when the photographs were taken but they appeared to have been taken at residence outside of Guyana, according to sources.

The 18-year-old has not been heard from since arriving in Guyana in mid October to visit a god brother who lives in the same Berbice area, in the village of Kildonia close to where the body was discovered.

The god brother who is also a British citizen reportedly told investigators that he never saw the young man and was even aware that he was visiting Guyana.

Earlier this week, the father of missing teen made an emotional plea for anyone with information about the possible whereabouts of his son to contact the nearest police station.

The family only became concerned about the teen’s whereabouts when they contacted the god brother in December to find out when the teen would be returning to his home in England, and was told that he had not been seen in Guyana.

Immigration and Customs records confirmed the arrival of the youth in Guyana.

The Crime Chief told News Source that as it is now, the case is still being treated as a missing person’s case as it could take a while before the identity of the body that was found today is confirmed.

He said DNA tests will likely have to be carried out because of the state of decomposition. The investigation is ongoing.
