Fort Wellington Hospital medical practitioner, Dr. Michelle Paul has regained full consciousness and is recovering well following last evening’s smash-up just outside the Region 5 Administration Office at Fort Wellington.
Dr. Paul is now a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital. She regained consciousness late last night and has been responding well to treatment, according to officials.
Today, she was visited by Regional Administration and Health Officials.
Dr. Paul was behind the wheels of her Honda SUV when a car that was overtaking her, slammed into her vehicle. The doctor lost control of her vehicle and ended up in the path of another car before hitting a power pole and eventually crashing through the fence of the RDC compound.
The entire front of her vehicle was smashed in and she was carefully removed from the wreckage and rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital where she works, before eventually being transported to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
The driver of the car that slammed into the doctor’s vehicle bolted from the scene of the Monday night accident. However, he was later arrested and is assisting with the investigations.
News Source understands that the doctor still has to undergo additional tests to clear her of any internal injuries. A number of test have already been done.
The accident has raised the issue of speeding again. Speeding is listed as the number one cause of road accidents in Guyana.
