East La Penitence teen in critical condition after hit by stray bullet

A 16-year-old East La Penitence girl who was on her way home from a friend’s birthday party in East Ruimveldt last night was hit to the neck by a stray bullet. She is now in a critical condition at the Georgetown Hospital.

The teenager, Reyna Depeazer, was in the company of another friend riding to her home at around 11:30pm when gunshots were heard and she fell to the ground in Mango Lane, East Ruimveldt.

Persons in the area rushed across to her assistance as she was seen in an unconscious state lying on the road side. The residents quickly took action to stop the profuse bleeding from her neck and rushed her to the Georgetown Hospital, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit in a critical condition after emergency care.

Persons in the area reported that there was an alleged confrontation between two rivaling gang members in the area when one of them started firing gunshots. It is believed that it was one of those gunshots that hit the teen. Police sources say a person of interest has since been taken into custody.
