Suspect arrested in “stray bullet” shooting of child in Linden

Police investigators in Linden have arrested the uncle of the five year old girl who was shot by a stray bullet while asleep in her bed. The Uncle lives in an adjoining apartment, and according to the Police, he admitted that while removing the magazine from a gun that he was keeping for a friend, it went off.

The 5-year-old girl underwent a successful surgery at the Linden hospital on Thursday afternoon to remove the bullet that was lodged in her throat.

She was in her bed on Wednesday night when she was shot. Her mother did not realise that the child was shot until she took her to the hospital the following morning after noticing the swelling of the neck.

Police investigators said they noticed a bullet hole in the wall of the girl’s room, and it was based on that that they decided to question the immediate neighbour, who is the child’s uncle.

According to a statement from the Police, the man claims that after the gun went off, he left his apartment to take it back to the person, who asked him to keep it. Police investigators are now trying to find the person. The uncle provided them with a name.

The young child remains hospitalised as the investigations continue.
