El Dorado Offshore, Noble Corporation and MATPAL Marine Institute team up to offer scholarships for Marine Cadet Programme

El Dorado Offshore (EDO), Noble Corporation and MATPAL Marine Institute today announced that applications are now open for the Noble Marine Cadet Scholarship Programme.

Through the Noble Marine Cadet Scholarship Programme, 20 aspiring Deck Cadets and Engineering Cadets will be given the opportunity to pursue their career in the offshore industry.

The programme is designed to develop Guyana’s next generation of offshore professionals by providing both classroom education and hands-on offshore experience.

At the launch today, International Labour Organization (ILO) Certified Trainer, Lyndell Danzie-Black said the programme provides a great opportunity for Guyanese.

“Through the collaboration with Noble Corporation, EDO and MATPAL, this scholarship programme opens the door for 20 promising cadets to step into the world of offshore exploration. These cadets will not only receive technical knowledge but also gain hands on experience in the field,” Black said.

Black said the programme is a representation of a shared commitment by El Dorado Offshore, Noble Corporation and MATPAL to equip young Guyanese with the skills, experience, and mentorship needed to excel in Guyana’s budding energy sector.

“This initiative is testament to the commitment of these three organizations to invest in the future of Guyana. It reflects a broader vision, one that seeks to ensure that the benefits of Guyana’s growing energy industry are shared with its people. And, that is very important,” Black said.

She urged Guyanese to seize the opportunity.

The four-year programme provides a unique blend of 18 months of classroom-based education and 18 months of offshore training, designed to ensure participants receive both theoretical grounding and practical, hands-on experience.

Thalia Wilson of El Dorado Offshore said the deadline for applications is December 31, 2024.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the maritime and offshore industry with strong support from Nobel Drilling, EDO, and MATPAL. We are committed to ensuring that students from every concern of Guyana have access to this information. To help with that, we are visiting three key locations to share the details of the programme and to assist with the application process in person,” Wilson said.

The successful applicants will benefit from comprehensive tuition coverage and professional guidance from industry veterans. Wilson said to remain eligible, cadets must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2 throughout their training and achieve 85% attendance in all required sessions, both classroom-based and offshore.

It was explained that the rigorous standards are to ensure that each graduate of the program is exceptionally prepared to assume critical roles in Guyana’s offshore industry, supporting the country’s goals of local workforce development and sector growth.

To encourage applications from across Guyana, EDO, Noble, and MATPAL will host community outreach sessions at various technical institutions, providing prospective applicants with comprehensive information about the programme and assisting with the application process.

The teachers will be visiting the technical institutes in New Amsterdam, Linden and Essequibo on the 25, 27 and 29 respectively.
