The Ogle Headquarters of ExxonMobil Guyana is now in full operation, but the final cost for the facility, which also houses the company’s Operation Centre, remains unknown.
At a press conference this morning, ExxonMobil Guyana President Alistair Routledge said the company is still crunching the numbers. He said it could take months before a final figure is determined.
Initially, the project was pegged at US$160M.
“As far as the final cost that is still being worked through and it would be inappropriate to give you a single number at this point. We have seen as I think pretty much everybody else has done price pressure on importation of goods, and getting projects executing here in Guyana but we will give you a final number when we have that,” Routledge told reporters.
Two years ago, Exxon confirmed that the cost of the multi-million US dollar facility will be recovered from the sale of oil after the then Parliamentary opposition raised concern that the cost of the project would impact the total revenue received by Guyana in the coming years.
According to the company, the cost would be recovered as provided for under the Stabroek Block Production Sharing Agreement.
Routledge told reporters today that the project delivered on all fronts, explaining that 81% of the construction workforce was Guyanese. Additionally, he said the company also made significant use of local service providers and products. More than US$100M was spent on local goods and services, Routledge said.
With more than 500 persons now working out of the building, Routledge said the company is now better positioned to accelerate development. Using a fibre optic cable, ExxonMobil will be linking its offshore operations with its onshore operations with the intention of having the FPSOs monitored from Ogle.
“From an operational point of view, we are in the process of moving the offshore panel operating positions starting from the FPSOs from Unity, Prosperity, and One Guyana to be based here working 24/7 but we do that very methodically so that it is a safe operation,” Routledge explained.
Already from the Ogle location, Exxon is monitoring the movement of vessels within the Stabroek Block, particularly those within proximity to the FPSOs.
