Former Customs House to undergo $123.5M renovation and serve as new home for Bureau of Statistics

Renovation and alteration works have commenced at the former Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs House building at Main and Hope Streets, Georgetown.

Back in 2014, the former People’s Progressive Party government had advertised the building for sale through NICIL.

The former Custom House building had served as the headquarters of the Department of Customs for several decades.

When the APNU+ AFC government took office in 2015, it reversed the decision to sell the building.

On Thursday, the government said the works to be conducted will cost a total of $123.5 million dollars and the building will serve as the new location for the Bureau of Statistics upon completion.
