Former Magistrate charged for drunk driving

A former Magistrate found himself on the other side of the courtroom today, as he was slapped with a drunk driving charge.

The former Magistrate, Chadra Sohan, was charged in connection with an incident that took place on Friday night in the Berbice area.

Sohan reportedly hit down a man down and drove away from the scene. When law enforcement arrived at his home, he was found to be exceedingly over the limit for alcohol consumption, when a breathalyzer exam was administered.

The 51-year-old Attorney appeared in court this morning and entered a not guilty plea to the charge. He was released on self bail but will make his next court appearance in September for the start of the trial.

Meanwhile, the man who was hit down is still nursing multiple injuries.
