The Guyana Police Force is crediting “the quick response and diligent work” by ranks of D’ Division, for the arrest of four of six robbery suspects and the recovery of firearms and ammunition.

The four men were arrested by Police, moments after they carried out a daring robbery at Cornelia Ida on the West Coast of Demerara.

A police report stated that just around 1:25pm on Friday, four men entered the business place operated by a mother and daughter, while pretending to be customers.

Two of the men whipped out firearms and relieved the two owners of their valuables. They hurried away from the scene in a waiting motor car, while firing shots in the air.

Police ranks after receiving the report, were able to intercept the getaway car, several villages away from the scene of the robbery.

Only the driver was found in the car at the time. The man from D’ Field, Sophia, told investigators that the men left his vehicle and boarded another that was heading to the Harbour Bridge.

“Observing that police ranks were in place at a road block at the Western end of the Harbour bridge, the car transporting the bandits sped away into Parfaite Harmonie, and crashed into a concrete culvert, during which the driver who hails from Section ‘K’ Vryheid, E.C.D, was accidentally shot in his upper right arm by one of his armed accomplices.”

The armed men abandoned their injured accomplice and boarded separate vehicles destined for Georgetown.

Two of them were nabbed at the Harbour Bridge. One of them who hails from Lamaha Park Georgetown, was found with the unlicensed firearm and five rounds.

He has since admitted to the crime and for shooting his accomplice.

Efforts are being made to have the other two suspects arrested. The two vehicles used for the getaway have since been lodged with the Police.

Investigations are ongoing.
