Fourteen more amnesty days to hand over illegal weapons

According to Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan, over 100 guns and over 1500 rounds of ammunition were handed over to the police during the amnesty month of September.

Fourteen more amnesty days to hand over illegal weapons

The Ministry of Public Security has announced that the firearm amnesty has been extended. The amnesty period was expected to come to an end yesterday but the government gave the go ahead for an extension.

 The amnesty will now end on October 14.

According to Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan, over 100 guns and over 1500 rounds of ammunition were handed over to the police during the amnesty month of September.
Half of those guns were handed over to the police during the past two weeks. Ramjattan said the move is a success and the amnesty forms part of the government efforts to tackle gun crimes and the presence of illegal firearm on the streets.
Guyana has recorded over 100 murders for this year and scores of other gun crimes.

The following Police Stations remain the places where the firearms could be handed in during this amnesty period. The period of acceptance is between 0900 hours and 1600 hours daily:
