Unlike his first appearance two weeks ago that saw him crying uncontrollably, a more composed Guyana Defence Force Captain, Orwain Sandy, was back in Court today as the murder case against him continued.
Sandy is facing the murder charge over the shooting death of his reputed wife, Reona Payne. The woman was shot multiple times to the body and left to die on the corner of the road in Alexander Village.
The Attorney for the accused had requested a psychiatric evaluation during the first hearing as the man sobbed his way in and out of the Courthouse.
However, during today’s appearance, the Court was told by the Police Prosecutor that the Prosecution is still awaiting a report from the Doctor who will be dealing with the psychiatric evaluation. The Court was also told that the Police investigation is still incomplete.
Sandy was sent back to jail as he remains in remand on the murder charge. The case will come up again later this month.
The young officer of the Guyana Defence Force was arrested after he turned himself over to Police on April 1 and handed over his weapon shortly after the reputed wife was shot dead. He reportedly told the Police about the crime and surrendered completely.
The couple reportedly had an argument in their car when they pulled over in Alexander village and both came out of the car rowing with each other. Moments later, gunshots rang out and the woman was spotted bleeding profusely at the scene from more than ten gunshot wounds.
The weapon used is reportedly the weapon that was supplied to Sandy as part of his work duties.
