The Guyana Defence Force has reported that one of its patrol vessels came under gunfire again on Tuesday while it was conducting patrol activities in the Cuyuni River in Region Seven. The GDF said its patrols encountered hostile fire twice on Tuesday afternoon.
Both incidents occurred in the Cuyuni River between 4:10pm and 4:50pm, the GDF stated.
On each occasion, the GDF patrols were escorting civilian vessels, and were forced to repond in accordance with operational procedures and safely manoeuvred out from the area without injury to anyone.
Two days ago, another GDF patrol came under gunfire near the Venezuelan border, resulting in a GDF soldier nursing two gunshot injuries to his right leg.
This morning, the Guyana Defence Force said it continues to maintain a sustained operational presence along the western border and remains committed to safeguarding Guyana’s territorial integrity and the security of its border communities.
