The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday named a total of six new appointees to head overseas Guyanese missions, including Canada and the United Kingdom.

Longstanding People’s National Congress (PNC) Member and former Deputy Speaker, Attorney, Clarissa Riehl has been named as the High Commissioner to Canada while Mr. Hamley Case has been named as the High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

No one has been named as Guyana’s Ambassador to the United States. Current US Ambassador Bayney Karran will move across the world to China and serve as Guyana’s new Ambassador to China.

Mr. David Hales will serve as Ambassador to Belgium.

The Government has been coming under increasing pressure to ensure that all overseas missions are fully staffed.

It also named Halim Majeed as the new Ambassador to Cuba and Chief of Protocol, Esther Griffith as the Consul General in Nickerie, Suriname.

During the recent budget debates, the opposition People’s Progressive Party pressed to government to make the announcement which it said it had already decided upon.
