The Guyana Power and Light company wants both residential and commercial customers to notify the company of any increases in their electricity usage.
In a statement on Sunday, GPL said customers should give the company “reasonable” notice of any increase in service requirements, including any increase in expected energy consumption.
GPL said its request follows several complaints from customers about voltage fluctuations, damaged meters and burnt appliances caused by transformer and low voltage, that the company said is linked to unreported increases in electricity usage.
The power company noted that lots of customers have been increasing their electricity usage by installing air conditioning sets and heavy duty appliances and also converting residential homes into multiple dwelling homes and apartments.
Under the Standard Terms and Conditions for Electric Services, customers are required to inform the power company of changes to their electricity usage and the addition of large appliances to the service.
Just recently the Power Company announced that it has commissioned more than 30 emergency response teams to be on the ready for any emergency situation that might occur during this season.
