Granger’s Trinidad visit was for annual medical check-up

President David Granger’s recent visit to Trinidad and Tobago was to facilitate his annual medical examination, the President has disclosed.

There was reluctance on the part of several government Ministers to disclose the purpose of the President’s visit when news surfaced on Monday last that he had traveled to the twin island Republic.

Government Ministers and officials would only say that Mr. Granger’s  one day visit was to take care of “private” business.

However, in an invited comment upon his return the President clarified that it was for his annual medical check- up.

“It was a routine checkup, a fitness test,” he said.

The President, who has been busy in the last few months, would not go further to comment on his health status.

He explained that the visit was planned since during the 10th Parliament with the intention to coincide with the annual parliamentary recess that occurs between August 10 and October 10 every year.

This was before the May 11 elections in which Granger secured a victory and long before the postponement of this year’s recess for the consideration and debates on the 2015 national budget.
