The police report said the nurse left the ward during the argument, but as he was walking up the stairway to another ward, he was confronted by the gun-packing 79-year-old, who had the gun in one hand, while issuing threats to shoot.

A 79-year-old resident of the Palms Geriatric Institute was arrested on Thursday evening after he allegedly threatened to shoot a male nurse at the same institute with his licensed firearm.

Police have not released the resident’s name, but said he is an ex-prison officer.

According to the police report, the incident took place around 8:15 on Thursday night during a misunderstanding.

The police report said the nurse left the ward during the argument, but as he was walking up the stairway to another ward, he was confronted by the gun-packing 79-year-old, who had the gun in one hand, while issuing threats to shoot.

The nurse managed to disarm the elderly man and immediately summoned the Police.

The firearm was turned over to the Police and the suspect taken into custody.
