Hours after the Ministry of Public Health announced that there was no new confirmed case of the coronavirus within 24 hours, the seventh death as a result of the virus was recorded on Saturday night.
In a late-night release, Public Health Minister Volda Lawrence announced the passing of coronavirus victim, but no other detail was presented.
News Source understands that the latest victim was a male patient who was housed in the special Coronavirus Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Hospital.
Guyana recorded its last coronavirus death nine days ago. The first death was recorded on the 11th March.
The Ministry of Public Health has reported that it has conducted 305 coronavirus tests so far, increasing the number of tests being done daily.
Additionally, private medical institutions are also now being allowed to conduct tests for the coronavirus. At least one local private laboratory has announced publicly that it is ready to begin taking samples to have the tests done.
The Ministry of Public Health is continuing with its call for citizens to practice physical distancing as a curfew remains in place.
