Guyana records improved performance at CSEC

Education Minister Nicolette Henry announced the results yesterday afternoon and said Guyana’s pass rate is higher than the 64% regional pass rate recorded by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

Guyana records improved performance at CSEC

The Education Ministry has announced that 73% of the students who wrote the CSEC examinations this year have recorded grade 1 to 3 passes in five or more subjects.

Education Minister Nicolette Henry announced the results yesterday afternoon and said Guyana’s pass rate is higher than the 64% regional pass rate recorded by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

She said the 73% overall pass rate is the best that has ever been recorded by Guyana.

There were improved performances in 21 subjects.

Seven subjects recorded the same pass rate when compared to the previous year and another 7 subject areas saw a poorer pass rate. 

There were improved performances in English language but the overall pass rate for Mathematics remained below 50%. 

The Top student hails from Essequibo and the Anna Regina Secondary School.  She is Riana Toney who gained 19-grade ones. 

The number two top performer comes from St Roses High. The student, Alex Abraham, gained 18 grade ones and two grade twos.  Anna Regina Secondary also copped the third spot. 

In total, 251 students gained grade one passes in eight or more subjects and that figure also represented Guyana’s best performance over the years.
