The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced that between January to June of this year, Guyana recorded a total of 226,463 visitors, representing a 12% year-to-date increase.
Providing an update on visitor’s arrivals, the GTA said the first half of 2026 marked continued progress for Guyana’s tourism sector, with growth recorded across visitor arrivals, capacity building, product development, destination marketing and industry partnerships.
It explained that based on current trends, more than 500,000 visitors are expected by December 31, 2026.
In June alone, the country welcomed 40,002 visitors, representing a 16.8% increase compared to June 2025, with Leisure travel remaining the largest contributor to arrivals, accounting for 61% of visitors, followed by Business (16%) and Other (23%).
“Major events and conferences contributed to sustained travel demand during the period, including the closing of the Diamond Jubilee Visual Arts Exhibition, Guyana Restaurant Week, International Building Expo, ICAC, Voting Rights & Electoral Justice Conference, Econome Business Mixer, Caribbean Port State Control Conference (CPSCC), and the WeLeadAssociation Conference,” the GTA announced.
Further, the Tourism Authority said it continued to strengthen tourism standards through inspections, licensing, and regulatory support for tourism businesses across Guyana. For the first hald this year this, 13 Tourism Accommodation Establishments, 34 Tour Operators, 9 Lodges & Resorts: 9 and 151 Tour guides were given the green light to operate in the country’s Tourism sector.
“These efforts supported improved service standards, increased industry compliance and continued growth in Guyana’s tourism offering. To support this, the new licensing portal was officially re-launched! Through the new Licensing & Regulatory Management Portal, you can apply for various categories, including Tour Guides, Tour Operators, Tourism Accommodation Establishments (Hotels), Lodges & Resorts, and Bed & Breakfast Facilities,” the GTA stated.
In addition, the GTA stated that between January and June 2026, 1,176 persons received training in key areas including First Aid & CPR, Introduction to Tourism, Bird Guide Accreditation, Tour Guiding, Business & Financial Management, Business Etiquette, and Delivering Quality Service.
