A Guyanese man who lives in New York was killed in a fatal hit and run incident in Schenectady, New York. But investigators believe the hit and run might have been deliberate.
Police have identified the victim as 47-year-old Inshan Ali, of Schenectady. According to a report carried by NEWS10 ABC, Ali was two weeks away from becoming a U.S. citizen.
Police are continuing their search for the driver who killed Ali as he was walking along Hamburg Street around midnight on Monday.
One man claimed that prior to the fatal incident, Ali had had been enjoying drinks and a game of pools. He said Ali left peacefully. But instead of getting into his car, which was parked outside, police said Ali left on foot.
It also doesn’t appear that he was headed north in the direction of Schenectady where he lived. Rather he walked south on Hamburg Street.
Rotterdam police said no one actually saw Ali get hit, but many neighbors did hear a loud thud. When they went out to investigate, neighbors told police they found the man lying on the ground.
The police believe that Ali had been walking in the street when a driver heading northbound on Hamburg Street struck him. The media report claimed that minutes before the fatal hit-and-run, a woman was awaken by noises that Ali was making outside their home.
The woman’s boyfriend said when his girlfriend confronted Ali he told her, “they’re trying to kill me.” Police are now asking for the public’s assistance in solving the case. They say they are looking for a vehicle that sustained serious, front end damage on the passenger side along with a broken windshield.
