Police investigators in the Norfolk, Virginia are still probing the shooting of a young Guyanese woman outside a suburban complex two Sundays ago.

The young woman has been identified as 33-year-old Naminatha Henry. According to reports, she had just dropped a friend home after a girl’s night out at the club and was driving out of the area when the friend heard several gunshots.

The friend, Suzanne Hing, told investigators and the media in Norfolk that she was already in her house when she heard the gunshots shortly after her friend drove off.

She said she called Henry’s phone immediately to find out if she had heard the shots also and it was then that she realised that it was the same friend who was shot.

“I grabbed my phone to ask her if she heard the shots,” she said. “It wasn’t until after three or four minutes that she called me and told me she couldn’t breathe.”

Henry was rushed to the hospital where she remains under medical care. Her husband and other family members have been gathering at her bedside, offering prayers that she will be able to pull through.

The shooting appears to have happened as the victim was in her car, trying to leave the neighbourhood. Hing said she heard five shots.

According to media reports, bullets also appear to have hit a nearby SUV and detectives were on the scene on Sunday afternoon to interview neighbors.

There are no reports of any suspects being arrested.
