GuySuco says packaged and bagged now available

The Guyana Sugar Corporation (Guysuco) today reiterated that there is no shortage of its Demerara Gold packaged sugar, despite the product not being on shelves in supermarkets across the country for a number of weeks.

In a statement today, GuySuco said the packaged sugar is available and can be purchased from its Albion and Blairmont estates.

According to sugar company, the production for the 2nd Crop of 2024 commenced last week and the sale of packaged sugar began on Monday.

The company has also announced the availability of bagged sugar at its Albion and Rose Hall Estates, with the Uitvlugt estate expected to have the product available from next Monday.

Additionally, the company said there has been no price change to the packaged or bagged sugar and it has urged businesses not to increase the price.

For more than a month, there has been complaint about the unavailability of the Demerara Gold sugar in the market places and supermarkets, raising concerns about a possible shortage. Many shoppers complained about an unbranded poor quality sugar being made available at some supermarkets.
