Harmon accuses DPP Office of “reeking in partiality”

Opposition Leader Joe Harmon has accused the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions of “reeking in partiality” when it comes to some recommendations for charges coming out of the office.

Speaking to reporters this morning as he protested the charges against Opposition MP and former Minister David Patterson, the Leader of the Opposition said he remains very concerned about some of the advice coming out of the office of the DPP.

Harmon said while he would not want to impugn the character or the integrity of DPP Shalimar Ali-Hack, “the work coming out of her office is reeking of partiality and of bias. Look at all the number of persons who have already been tried, Anil Nandlall, Ashni Singh, the one from NICIL, all of them before these Courts, the Magistrates and the Police did their work, and of course Irfaan Ali and it was just a matter of time and in she comes and null processes these matters, I think there ought to be a stopping to that. On the other hand, look at what she is doing to other Guyanese”.

The Opposition Leader said he wants to know whether the Office of the DPP has been infiltrated because of some of the decisions coming out of the office.

Mr. Harmon was joined by other Opposition Members of Parliament and supporters of the APNU+AFC in a protest outside the Magistrates’ Court this morning. He said the move by the Police through SOCU to move ahead with charges against the former Minister years after the matter was addressed by the Police Force’s Legal Adviser, shows clear political intent.
