The mining community of Aranka in Region Seven is under flood waters and the Civil Defence Commission is working closely with regional officials on the issue.
Information coming out of the region has indicated that about half of the community’s population of 2500 has been affected by the flood waters.
In a statement, the CDC said residents have now been forced to use boats to move across the community in areas where roads should be.
The CDC will be deploying a team to support the response to the flooding.
Meanwhile, several communities across Guyana have been placed on alert for heavy rainfall within the next 72 hours. The Hydromet office has issued the weather warning.
