Hicken issues warning to cops about breaking the law and ignoring SOPs

Acting Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken on Sunday issued a stern warning to members of the Guyana Police Force that the Force will not tolerate its members going against the standard operating procedures of the force and acting outside of the law.

The Commissioner’s statement came on the same day that the Force hosted a memorial service for those ranks who died over the years in the line of duty.

In the statement released by Police headquarters, Mr. Hicken said no member of the Force will be shielded if found in breach of the Police regulations, adding that if any rank is found to have breached the SOPs then regulations will be enforced against them.

It was also noted that if any rank act independently outside of the law, that rank will be dealt with condignly and face the full brunt of the law.

The Acting Commissioner said unprofessionalism will not be condoned, and no one will be allowed to tarnish the image of the Guyana Police Force.

Questioned about whether the Commissioner’s statement is specific to any recent incident, the Force Public Relations Office would only say that the Commissioner’s statement should be seen as a timely reminder for members of the Force.
