Housing Department extends 50/50 Jubilee land deal to June 2nd

The Department of Housing in the Ministry of Communities has announced that persons who still need to complete payments for their allocated plot of land as part of the 50/50 Jubilee land deal, now have until June 2, 2016 to complete the payments to take advantage of the offer.

The announcement comes after a number of persons were turned away last week after there was some confusion about whether the offer had ended.

Minister within the Ministry of Communities Valerie Patterson made it clear that the offer had not ended.

The confusion came after the Chairman of the Central Housing and Planning Authority’s Board, Hamilton Green was quoted in a section of the media as saying that a hold had been placed on the promotional deal by the board.

However, Minister Patterson quickly indicated that the Board never had any discussion with her or her Ministry on any such move and she reminded that the Central Housing and Planning Authority falls under the Department of Housing, not the other way around.

As part of the land deal, persons who were allocated plots of land were allowed to pay half of the cost by the end of April, 2016 and then be allowed to pay only half of the remaining 50% before the end of May. The offer resulted in a 25% discount on the cost for the house lots.

Persons are now being encouraged to take advantage of the extension.
