Hughes not reconsidering resignation as AFC Chairman

Attorney At Law Nigel Hughes is not backing down from his decision to resign as Chairman of the Alliance For Change.

In a surprise move on Monday evening, Hughes told the AFC Management committee that he was moving on and no longer wanted to serve as the party’s Chairman.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, he said the decision was made because serving in the position had become untenable and difficult. He did not offer any other details. However, when contacted by News Source yesterday, Mr. Hughes said he would not be reconsidering his decision to resign.

When asked by News Source if there is any possibility that he might pull the resignation back, Hughes said “boat gone ah falls”, meaning that there was no turning back.

The AFC Chairman’s resignation came following a statement issued by the party calling for a stripping of the powers of the Minister of State.

Reports suggest that a number of top AFC members were not supportive of the press release being issued.

President Granger has since indicated that he does not believe that the duties and responsibilities entrusted in the Minister are burdensome. The President’s position is that Harmon could continue on with the portfolios that were given to him following last May’s elections.
