Investigators rule out negligence in mine collapse which killed Russian Geologist

A freak accident may be the cause for the death of a Russian geologist who lost his life during a pit collapse last month at a remote mining area in Region Seven.
Minister within the Ministry of  Natural Resources, Simona Broomes said the Ministry is expecting the final report from investigators by tomorrow.

But even before that report is handed over, the Minister said based on preliminary findings negligence on the part of the company is being ruled out.

The mining operation was being carried out by Innovative Mining Inc., headed by well known businessman Parmeshwar Jagmohan.
A team of investigators had traveled to the Annamuri Backdam, Mazaruni, Region Seven to investigate the circumstances under which the man lost his life.
The Russian and a mining worker were both on site when the pit collapsed, covering them. The geologist died on the spot.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission were only notified about the incident several days after it occurred.

Broomes said a report was made immediately to the Social Protection Ministry but despite officers from that Ministry and the police going to the location the GGMC was not notified until days later.

Broomes explained that investigators have not stumbled on any evidence of negligence and is concluding that it was merely a freak accident.
