Police and Guyana Geology and Mines Commission investigators have traveled to a mining camp in the Mahdia community following a tragic mining pit collapse that has left a young gold miner dead.
The name of the miner has not been released but according to report, he is from the Linden community.
The incident took place on Sunday morning as a number of miners attached to the same mining camp were working on the mine site. The mining pit suddenly collapsed and the miner was sucked in by the caving mud.
His body was eventually recovered and he was pronounced dead.
The scene of the accident is an area known as White Hole. Police from the Mahdia station are leading the investigation.
