Jagdeo calls Government a “total failure” as he opens debate on no-confidence motion

Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo stood to defend his motion on “no-confidence” in the Government by describing the coalition administration as “incompetent and corrupt”.

In outlining his case for the motion, Mr. Jagdeo said the Government has been a total failure and has not been keeping its promises to the Guyanese people who voted them into office.

He said the Government Members have instead been focusing more attention on themselves.

“The people out there, they demand that we pursue this and I know there are 33 members who have been growing fat on the perks of office and wish that this motion disappears”, he said.

Jagdeo said the coalition government has mismanaged the resources of Guyana and that is the main reason behind his decision to file the motion against the government.

According to Jagdeo, the Government has failed on its manifesto promises and is harming democracy. He said the David Granger led administration is totally untrustworthy.

He said the Government has failed to bring any major investor to Guyana and has only been talking “about oil oil oil”. Jagdeo told the Assembly that it people need to remember that Exxon came to Guyana under the PPP government and discovered oil under the PPP administration.

He said the Government went into the room to renegotiate with Exxon and was totally “unprepared and incompetent”.

Jagdeo also took aim at a number of Government Ministries and claimed that they have been mismanaging their portfolios.

“We have made the case that this government is totally useless to the people of Guyana. The longer they stay there, the more damaging it will be to our future”.

He defended his own government’s time in office and shot down the claims of the more than four hundred persons who were killed under his government by a phantom death squad. He said the list bearing those names, includes criminals and persons who even died from heart attacks.

With the Government side of the house heckling him throughout his debate presentation, Jagdeo asked who exactly was the Government working for.

“Who are they managing for but themselves? But trace the extravagance”.  He said the government has been enjoying the perks in office and there simply needs to be a scratch of the surface.

He said the Government has not even been looking out for its supporters and is more a group of “elitists”.

Jagdeo said at the end of the day, he is sure that the Government will be losing office.
